HISTORY OF CELL
In 1665, Robert Hooke examine the thin slice of cork taken from bark of tree through self – designed microscope of primitive microscope Robert Hooke observed cork slice consisting of many little compartments or rooms (hexagonal). In Latin language these little rooms are called cell.
Robert Hooke discovered Dead cell.
In 1674, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek observed first living cell in pond water by the help of powerful micro- scope
In 1831, Robert Brown discovered Nucleus in the cell.
In 1838, M. Schleiden, Botanist from Germany → Plants are made upsf cells
In 1839, T. Schwann Zoologist, British
- Animals and plants are made up of cells.
- All animals cells are covered by thin plasma membrane
- Cell wall is present in plant cells.
1855→ Rudolf Virchow, German→ Said in Latin “Omnis – cellula – e cellula” → All cells come from pre-existing cells.

In 1839, J.E Purkinje coined the term – protoplasm
